Louie O'Doherty added the English lightweight championship to his growing collection of honours after defeating Youssef Khoumari over twelve rounds at York Hall.

The bout represented another significant step up for O'Doherty.

Khoumari entered as the reigning English champion and with substantially more professional experience, while O'Doherty was competing over twelve rounds for the first time.

Neither the occasion nor the demanding conditions inside a sweltering York Hall stopped the Essex fighter.

After twelve rounds, O'Doherty was awarded a unanimous decision and became English lightweight champion, improving his unbeaten professional record to 10–0.

Speaking afterwards, Louie described how the longer contest suited both his fitness and mentality.
