Before the professional titles and championship nights at York Hall, Louie O’Doherty was already building his credentials in the amateur ranks.
Representing Halstead & Essex University, Louie competed in the men's under-63.5kg division at the 2022 England Boxing National Amateur Championships.
His run culminated in the national final against White Hart Lane's Mitchell Asare. England Boxing's official championship records list O'Doherty and Asare in the under-63.5kg final, with Louie emerging as the 2022 champion in the division.
The victory marked an important milestone in a journey that had begun years earlier in Essex and helped establish Louie among the country's leading amateur boxers.
It would also prove to be an important stepping stone towards the professional game.
Just over a year later, Louie would step through the ropes for his first professional contest.
